How we estimate location
We look up your public IP in a local DB-IP City Lite database on the server. The database maps IP ranges to places where those ranges are commonly registered or used. We do not read your device GPS and we do not ask the browser for precise location permission for this tool.
Country is typically the most reliable field. City, region, and map coordinates can lag real-world routing—especially on mobile and VPN exits. Full explainer: why IP location can be wrong.
When the city looks wrong
Carrier hubs, corporate VPNs, and cloud exits often geolocate to a data-center city instead of your neighborhood. That is a database limitation, not a bug in the page layout.
Compare with coordinates and ISP. Try again off VPN if you need your access network’s estimate.
Responsible use
Use IP location for timezone clues and troubleshooting—not for emergency services, stalking, or claiming a street address. For precise location you need device GPS with permission.

What is IP location?
IP location (IP geolocation) estimates where a public IP address is registered or commonly used—usually country, region, and sometimes city—using network databases. It is not the same as GPS location from your phone.
How accurate is IP location on this site?
Country is usually reliable. City and region can be off by dozens of kilometers, especially on mobile networks or when traffic exits through a distant ISP or VPN gateway. We use DB-IP Lite estimates.
Why is my city wrong?
Geolocation databases map IP ranges to places. Corporate, VPN, and carrier-grade NAT ranges often point to a hub city rather than your exact neighborhood.
Can I hide my IP location?
A VPN or proxy changes the exit IP websites see, so location estimates follow that exit network instead of your home ISP. Your true GPS location is never read by this tool.
Is IP location the same as GPS?
No. IP location comes from network databases. GPS comes from your device’s location hardware and usually needs your permission in the browser.
